Object & Scope

First of all, we would like to say, welcome to Ube, Yamaguchi !! It is our great pleasure to have you in here for joining to the 2nd International Symposium on Technologies for a Safe and Environmental Friendly Society.

The Faculty of Engineering, Yamaguchi University, the Faculty of Science & Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Universidad de Zaragoza have agreed each other to organize the Student Education Exchange Program and Joint Symposium among three universities based on the agreement for academic cooperation in 2013. The Student Education Exchange Program will focus on the sharing research ideas, practical discussions and research collaboration to the recent hot topics in Chemical, Civil & Environmental and Informatics Engineering fields as the first step. And the Joint Symposium will be discussing the latest topics related to above mentioned fields in this time.

The first Symposium has been held in Zaragoza, Spain at 26th November 2013 on “Membranes and Sustainable Technologies” and in Lisbon, Portugal at 29th November 2013 on “Management & Maintenance of Bridges”, respectively. The major concern in the 2nd Symposium which will be held in Ube, Yamaguchi at 27th – 29th November 2014, focused in combined both topics of previous one, that is “infrastructure management” and “functional materials” as the main topics. We believe that the Symposium might make a good collaboration of three universities in the future as a valuable reference for recent developments in strategic safe and environmental friendly society.

Establishment of the strategic safe and environmental friendly society is becoming one the most important issues in the sustainable development of societies not only in Japan, Spain and Portugal but also in all over the world. Therefore, advanced research works and international collaboration are needed to establish safer and securer eco-civil system to be passed on to the next generation. The papers which will present in the Symposium focus on how to improve the engineering skill for three university students and also the latest research topics in three universities for future collaboration.

We believe that the Symposium will make the first step of a good collaboration among three universities not only at this time but also in the future as a valuable reference for recent developments in each research field.

At the Symposium, we strongly hope discussions will be active and fruitful in terms of exchange of views among all participants.
